Immediately after His baptism Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness where He fasted for 40 days and was tempted by the devil. Hebrews 4:15 tells us that He “was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin”.
As we observe Jesus response to the devil how does He demonstrate His faith?
How does He demonstrate His knowledge of the word?
What other thoughts or questions do you have about the temptation of Jesus?
Today’s Reading: Matthew 4:1-11 (If you have time also read Luke’s account of the temptation in Luke 4:1-13.)
After being baptized by John, Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness where He fasted 40 days and was tempted by the devil.
Which of the three temptations do you think would have been most difficult for Jesus to resist? Turning stones to bread? Proving He is the Son of God by throwing Himself down to be rescued by angels? The offer of all the kingdoms of the world and their glory if He would worship Satan?
Note especially how Jesus responds to the final temptation (Matthew 4:10, comp. Luke 4:8). What do you see in Jesus example of resisting temptation that can help you?
