“ALL scripture is….profitable…

Tuesday we begin our “Daily Bible Review”.  It’s a year long journey through the Bible. Some of this we are very familiar with: Genesis is great of course…the creation…Noah and the ark.  Then in Exodus we have the parting of the Red Sea and the 10 Commandments.  It will be MID OCTOBER before we finally get to the life of Jesus!

Our biggest challenge may be staying “tuned in” through the Old Testament history of Israel and some of the obscure prophets like Obadiah, Habakkuk, or the 52 chapters in Jeremiah.

2 Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable ….”.  All of it! That includes Obadiah!  (Not sure why I am picking on Obadiah). There is something worthwhile in every word of the Bible.  Every story and every character can help us in some way.  God included it for a reason.

Some parts may take a little more concentration than others. Maybe we should begin everyday with with this simple prayer:  “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.”  (Psalm 119:18).

I am very optimistic that the chronological format of this reading and the introductory notes will help me better understand the prophets. Does anyone else struggle with this section?

When we read through the Bible in the usual format, we don’t connect what was going on at the time with what the the prophets were writing. I think reading the Bible in chronological order will give insight and a better understanding of the prophet’s writings.
